Tom Price Mine Tour

The bus driver/ tour guide gave a very polished and one thinks very rehearsed and funny (like watching an old BBC comedy) routine about the Rio Tinto Iron Ore mine at Tom Price.

It is amazing to see the massive size of the machinery that they use to transport the iron ore from the pit to the crushers and then to the trains which when loaded with 234 carts go off to Dampier to the waiting ships to take it to China or India. One statistic that seems incomprehensible is that they use 1.2 million litres of diesel a week to run all the trucks and machinery that gets out the iron ore. Rosalee turned to me and said the environments pretty stuffed then!

The kids enjoyed the mine tour you got to wear helmets and glasses and they especially enjoyed the ride sitting in the back of the bus.
