Leaving Mary Pool we headed to Fitzroy Crossing after a couple of hours we crossed over the Fitzroy which as it was a one lane bridge was slow enough to capture a photo. We then headed out to Geikie Gorge and did one of the walks around the gorge. The DEC run boat trips, but the next one was not to 3.00pm so we did not worry about this.

Back on the road we turned off the Great Northern Highway and travelled up Leopold Rd to Windjana Gorge, after travelling for 11 klms we found our camp spot for the night in a disused quarry. We drove around trying to find the concrete pad that the Fowlers had camped on, and once we had located it we parked the van on this for the night.

There was a couple of cattle that wandered in and around the campsite, I went and found enough firewood for us to have a fire. Rosalee cooked up some baked potatoes and garlic bread in the coals of the fire.

The evening was spent telling scary stories around the camp fire and I won for telling the legendary story of Jandamarra an Bunuba freedom fighter of the late 1800’s that fought the white settlers and died at Tunnel Creek (which we were visiting tomorrow).

This was a fun campsite.
