Rosalee decided to read the book “We of the Never Never” a few days before we arrived, I followed suit and it helped put into perspective many of the characters and life hardships that the first settlers and the local indigenous people faced in this country. My favourite part of the book is “there are those that once arrive and never, never want to leave or others who once arrive never, never want to come back”.

We visited the Elsey cemetery, site of old homestead went swimming in thermal pool at Mataranka Homestead, saw the replica homestead, and swam unnerved at times in the Roper River, only freshies they say, but a few salties get in now and then.
