Now you would think that MT would stand for mount, but you would be wrong it stands for mining town!! Now that’s a surprise. We have spent the last 2 days here after leaving Ravenshoe on Wednesday. The weather has been a bottler with 26 and 27 degrees just lovely for July.

We decided that we would go fossicking for quartz and topaz so we purchased the necessary licence and rented some equipment and off we went into the bush for 40 klms of 4wd delight. The kids enjoyed looking for crystals as they called them and we found a lot of quartz and no topaz, but a far more experienced fossicker and found some lovely bits of topaz including a blue one that he showed us from a distance that is.

It reminded me of my old Paddie that went opal mining out at Lightening Ridge it is a lot of work for not much return.

On our way back we came across a huge black snake on the bitumen it was so long that we turned around to have another look it was nearly 2 metres in length. It raised it’s head as our car approached and took off across the road and into the bush.

It is also Mum aka Nanna’s birthday today and the kids rang her and sang Happy Birthday, see attached photo Nanna for your surprise. And I really did send the birthday card last week well at least on Friday.
