Our plan was only to have a short drive, but when we arrived at our planned free camp at Marathon it was a very small roadside stop that Road trains also visited, we obviously decided that we didn’t like our chances of staying there so we continued on, and missed our next campsite we had to drive another 100 klms to the next one. Rosalee checked Wiki camps and found that Prairie Hotel was closed, I checked the Camp 6 book and gave them a ring to find out that they still allowed camping in the back of the pub.
We arrived around 5pm and I could not find a place to park at the front so went around the side, the owners wife came out and went and got her husband to move the aggressive Alpaca to another yard further back so that we could park the van inside. We set up camp and went inside to get dinner as payment for our free camp, but the place did not do meals we felt awkward and then ordered 6 cans of soft drink and I played pool with Elijah.
It was a twilight zone moment and the inside of the pub is filled with all weird and wonderful items, but I am not sure why they want people to camp out the back when all you can buy is beer, soft drinks or a packet of chips.
Other than that it was a fairly uninteresting night, we went back to our van and had nacho’s.
