The pressure to make a 9am appointment to catch the bus to take us half way up into the pound was enormous, Rosalee was madly doing the girls hair whilst I grabbed the water, sunscreen and camera gear for the walk. In the distance we saw the bus pull into the visitors centre we all started running to get there before the bus pulled away, luckily for us we were the only customers for this shuttle run.

We embarked and walked to the old Wilpena homestead and read about the story of one of the lease holders, and then the kids played with a statue of a couple of Aboriginal men. We headed off up the hill to the lookout, but Marcella was screaming for us to come back, I dutifully returned and she said she wanted to show me something. I asked what is kit and she pointed to the Aboriginal man and said “look Daddy, peanuts!”.

After encouraging her to leave the statue we quickly caught up to the leading party and we all checked out the pound from the two lookouts, after this we returned to catch the bus back to the visitors centre.

Rosalee made us all a lovely lunch of nachos then we hit the books with the kids as we did another day of school. Whilst we were sitting there a great big Kangaroo came up and licked all our dishes on the table and when Amelia opened the door the roo tried to get inside. There was much screaming and panic from Amelia, and Marcella kept saying don’t hurt him he is cute. See Rosalee’s facebook for photo.

The kids had a great day doing a range of activities and we were all pretty tired by the end of the day, thanks to the inverter the kids are watching a DVD before bed.
