As we were heading over on the ferry the Parks and Wildlife man spoke about going to the tessalated pavements at low tide and seeing all the sea life in the rock pools. I had put that in the back of my head and found out that low tide was at 1.39pm so at 1.00pm we walked down onto the tessalated pavements.

The sea life was pretty cool and we had a great time picking up starfish and then putting them back and watching them reattach to the rocks. We enjoyed walking around the rocks and exploring. Suddenly an old man began yelling at us frantically, I though he was concerned about the kids close to the waters edge, but as I got closer to him he was wanting to show us a baby echidna that was on the beach.

The kids came over and watched the echidna run off into the bush the man stated that he had been coming here for 10 years and had never seen an echidna on the beach before. After the man left we went over to where the echidna had gone and to our surprise he was still there. The echidna had a number of burs on its back that it was unable to get out, I decided to help it and touched the quills on its back and pulled off a bur. To my amazement the echidna did not run off or become to distressed, he must of known we were trying to help and all of us had a turn in taking a bur off its back, once we had all the burs off the echidna went back into the bush.

Elijah said that I had a real connection to the echidna and that was why it did not become distressed, Amelia said she knew why this was so because Dad always has an echidna ice cream cake for his birthday. LOL!
